The programs at That Kid Thing® give children learning experiences that link knowledge with identity. Each program is designed to connect mainstream education with Islamic values through hands-on exploration, reflection and creativity.
Our learning experiences run in schools, in our studio and within the community – with an online platform on the way. From guided art sessions to craft workshops, STEAM investigations and full learning sequences, every program is shaped by our framework: Thinking. Doing. Creating.
This approach encourages children to think deeply, try things for themselves and express their understanding in meaningful, creative ways. Our programs support families, educators and home-schooling networks with resources that are practical, adaptable and grounded in values.

Brushes & Bites™

Our much-loved Brushes & Bites session invites children into a relaxed, creative space where art, imagination, and a little treat come together. This workshop is all about joyful making – a chance for kids to explore colour, texture, and simple art techniques in a comfortable, encouraging environment.
Children will follow a guided artwork step-by-step, but with plenty of room to personalise their canvas in their own unique style. From blending colours to adding small details, the process is designed to be fun, achievable, and confidence-building for children of all ages and skill levels.
Brushes & Bites is a sensory-rich experience that focuses on creativity, self-expression, and the enjoyment of making something with their own hands. It’s a warm and uplifting session where children can relax, experiment, and feel proud of what they create.
To add to the experience, each child will receive a halal snack box, giving them a little moment to pause and enjoy a treat before continuing with their artwork.
Every child will take home their completed canvas – a beautiful keepsake ready to display, gift, or continue adding to at home.

STEAM Lab™ - Beach Diorama

In this hands-on STEAM session, children will create their own miniature beach scene using sand, modelling materials, craft pieces and simple construction techniques.
This activity introduces concepts such as landscape design, scale, and environmental features in a fun and accessible way.
Children will be guided step-by-step as they build their diorama base, shape landforms, add water effects, and place elements like rocks, trees, pathways or sea creatures. They will explore different materials, how colours and textures create atmosphere, and how small details can bring a scene to life.
This workshop encourages creativity, fine motor skills and observational thinking as children plan, build, and refine their miniature world. Each child will take home their completed beach diorama to display proudly.

In this hands-on session, children will explore colour, pattern and design as they create their own mosaic artwork to take home and display. Using a range of bright, pre-cut mosaic tiles, each child will arrange and glue their pieces onto a backing board that will be framed at the end of the workshop.
Children will be offered a selection of simple design options to follow, or they may choose to create their own arrangement using the shapes and colours provided. This workshop is designed to support creativity, decision-making and fine motor skills in a calm, engaging environment.
This session is suitable for children aged 5 and up.

Mini Maker Kitchen™ - Dessert Jar Workshop

In this delicious hands-on session, children will create their own layered dessert jar to take home and enjoy. Using a selection of fresh and pantry ingredients, participants will learn how to prepare simple components, make fresh whipped cream, cut fruit safely, and assemble their dessert in layers.
Children will be able to choose from a range of flavours and mix-ins such as fruit, cake pieces, cream, custard, biscuits, and toppings. They will explore how different textures and colours work together and follow guided steps to build their dessert from start to finish.
This workshop focuses on independence, food preparation skills, safe handling of ingredients, and creativity in presentation. Every child will leave with a completed dessert jar, securely packaged for transport.

Art With Heart™

In this calming, creativity-focused session, children will create their own guided canvas artwork using simple techniques that are achievable for a wide age range. Each child will be provided with a blank canvas, quality paints, and step-by-step guidance to help them explore colour, shape, and composition in a supportive environment.
The artwork is thoughtfully designed with themes inspired by Islamic values, encouraging mindfulness, confidence, and gentle self-expression. Children will be shown each stage of the process, with room to personalise their piece through colour choices and small creative details that reflect their individual style.
The workshop is relaxed, purposeful, and accessible for beginners as well as children who enjoy art. It nurtures focus, creativity, and a positive connection to identity through meaningful artmaking.
At the end of the session, every child will take home their completed canvas – a beautiful keepsake ready to display, gift, or continue adding to at home.

Mosaic Tile Frame Workshop
STEAM Lab™ - Ferris Wheel

In this engaging STEAM session, children will design and construct their own mini Ferris wheel using craft materials such as paddle-pop sticks, connectors, dowels and cups.
This activity introduces early engineering concepts in a way that is hands-on, creative and easy for children to understand.
Throughout the workshop, children will follow guided steps to assemble the structure, explore how wheels rotate, and understand how stability and balance affect movement. They will test their Ferris wheel, make simple adjustments, and learn how small design changes can improve how it spins.
This experience encourages problem-solving, patience and critical thinking, while still allowing room for creativity in the decoration and final presentation of their project.
Each child will take home their completed Ferris wheel at the end of the workshop.

Cake Decorating Workshop

In this hands-on workshop, children will decorate their own cake to take home. They will learn how to use basic tools such as spatulas and piping bags, practise spreading and smoothing icing, and be given a variety of edibles to decorate their cake with.
All materials are provided, including a pre-baked cake, icing in a range of colours, and a selection of toppings. Children are guided step-by-step, with plenty of room for creativity in how they choose to decorate their cake.

STEAM Lab™ - Bath Bomb Workshop

In this fun, hands-on science-based lesson, students will explore how common household ingredients combine to create a fizzy reaction by making their own customised bath bomb.
With guidance, they will measure, mix, colour, and scent their bath bombs, embedding a small waterproof surprise toy inside.
This activity introduces students to basic chemical reactions in a playful and age-appropriate way, while also allowing for creative expression.
Students will take home their finished bath bomb along with a care card explaining how to store and use it safely.
