The programs at That Kid Thing® give children learning experiences that link knowledge with identity. Each program is designed to connect mainstream education with Islamic values through hands-on exploration, reflection and creativity.
Our learning experiences run in schools, in our studio and within the community – with an online platform on the way. From guided art sessions to craft workshops, STEAM investigations and full learning sequences, every program is shaped by our framework: Thinking. Doing. Creating.
This approach encourages children to think deeply, try things for themselves and express their understanding in meaningful, creative ways. Our programs support families, educators and home-schooling networks with resources that are practical, adaptable and grounded in values.

Brushes & Bites™

Our much-loved Brushes & Bites session invites children into a relaxed, creative space where art, imagination, and a little treat come together. This workshop is all about joyful making – a chance for kids to explore colour, texture, and simple art techniques in a comfortable, encouraging environment.
Children will follow a guided artwork step-by-step, but with plenty of room to personalise their canvas in their own unique style. From blending colours to adding small details, the process is designed to be fun, achievable, and confidence-building for children of all ages and skill levels.
Brushes & Bites is a sensory-rich experience that focuses on creativity, self-expression, and the enjoyment of making something with their own hands. It’s a warm and uplifting session where children can relax, experiment, and feel proud of what they create.
To add to the experience, each child will receive a halal snack box, giving them a little moment to pause and enjoy a treat before continuing with their artwork.
Every child will take home their completed canvas – a beautiful keepsake ready to display, gift, or continue adding to at home.

Motion & Magic - River Diorama

In this immersive STEAM and craft-based session, students will construct a miniature river diorama using materials like aluminium foil, flexible tubing, clay rocks, kinetic sand, and natural elements. With a strong focus on creativity and environmental awareness, children will explore how rivers flow, form landscapes, and connect to ecosystems. To elevate the sensory experience, the model includes a lake area created using clear blue oobleck or slime. This longer-format lesson promotes spatial planning, creative problem-solving, and environmental storytelling - all from the safety of their desks. The final creation is a dynamic, hands-on model of natural movement and habitat, combining science and Islam with artistry.

In this vibrant and creative session, children will design their own personalised name frame using mini coloured pencils and wooden letter tiles, carefully arranged within a frame. Each child will select and arrange their coloured pencils in a rainbow or custom palette, then place letter tiles to spell out their name. The finished product is a bold, cheerful keepsake that blends colour, pattern, and identity - perfect for displaying in a bedroom or study space.

3D Mosque Shadow Box

In this thoughtful and layered art experience, students will create a three-dimensional Islamic-themed shadow box using a wooden frame and mixed media materials. Using elements such as silhouette cut-outs, transparent overlays, patterned paper, and miniature decorative items (e.g. stars, domes, or lanterns), students will construct a serene and meaningful scene — such as a mosque at night or an abstract spiritual landscape. The lesson blends paper craft, spatial awareness, and design, encouraging patience, precision, and personal reflection. This special keepsake is both decorative and symbolic, allowing children to connect with their faith through creativity in a modern, stylish format.

DIY Name Frame

Air Dry Clay Mosaic Creatures

In this imaginative, tactile art experience, students will explore sculpture and pattern-making as they create a themed shape (e.g. butterfly, animal, or symbol) using air-dry clay. Once their base shape is formed, students will press colourful beads and mosaic-like elements directly into the clay to create intricate patterns and textures. This activity encourages fine motor control, planning, and creative risk-taking as students balance form and decoration. Once finished, artworks will be sealed with Mod Podge to preserve their design. This unique mixed-media activity blends traditional clay work with mosaic art in a way that’s fun, flexible, and beautifully hands-on.

STEAM Lab™ - Decoden Frame

This creative lesson invites students to explore visual composition and texture as they decorate their own photo frame using Decoden cream and a selection of themed embellishments, including colourful lollies, love hearts, and jewels. Students will express their individual style through careful placement and layering, enhancing their fine motor control and aesthetic awareness. As a fast-finisher activity, students will complete a matching insert artwork to place inside their frame - such as a colour-by-number or mini drawing. The completed frame makes a cheerful take-home keepsake and supports imaginative design thinking in a low-mess, high-engagement setting.

Motion & Magic - Moon Phase

In this engaging hands-on activity, children will create a beautifully detailed moon phase diorama using air dry clay and acrylic paints, all assembled within a wooden shadow tray. They’ll explore the eight phases of the moon through a blend of creativity and science, while also discovering the Islamic significance of lunar cycles. Each child will sculpt and paint their own moons, earth, and sun, resulting in a stunning educational keepsake that visually represents the lunar journey.

STEAM Lab™ - Bath Bomb Workshop

In this fun, hands-on science-based lesson, students will explore how common household ingredients combine to create a fizzy reaction by making their own customised bath bomb.
With guidance, they will measure, mix, colour, and scent their bath bombs, embedding a small waterproof surprise toy inside.
This activity introduces students to basic chemical reactions in a playful and age-appropriate way, while also allowing for creative expression.
Students will take home their finished bath bomb along with a care card explaining how to store and use it safely.
